Meet our Staff
Sherry McIntosh Sherry is the personable office manager. She brings many years of secretarial experience with her and is well known for her warm caring demeanor. She can answer most questions relating to services provided through the office as well as community wide. Sherry enjoys studying the legal system, being involved with her church, and spending time with her children, Ian and Kaley. |
Jacylyn Schuon, Psy.D. Licensed Psychologist
Dr. Schuon joined the Student Counseling in 2010. She holds a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Georgia School of Professional Psychology. She has several years of experience at college counseling centers, completing her advanced practicum at Agnes Scott College, her pre-doctoral internship at Virginia Tech, and her postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Georgia. Her areas of interest include anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and group therapy. Her approach to counseling is integrative with a focus on student wellness and often incorporates cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness based interventions. |

Director
Dr. Cordery joined Student Counseling in January 2009 and became Director of the Center in July, 2010. He earned his Doctorate and Master’s degrees in Clinical Psychology from the Georgia School of Professional Psychology. Dr. Cordery earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from Kennesaw State University. Dr.Cordery has previous University Counseling experience as a practicum student here at North Georgia in 2006-2007 and as a pre-doctoral intern at Grand Valley State University in Michigan. He has also worked in private practice and for several years at a day hospital for eating disorders. He works primarily from a cognitive theoretical perspective. Although Dr. Cordery enjoys working with a wide variety of client problems, his areas of interest include eating disorders, anxiety disorders, and working with combat veterans around issues of trauma and reintegration to college life. |

Denise Suggs, M.E.d., LPC Licensed Professional Counselor Denise is a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 20 years in the mental health service field. Denise has served population groups including family units, children, adolescents, young adults, adult and youth offenders of the law, and individuals presenting with alcohol/drug issues. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development and a Master of Education degree in Health Promotion and Behavior from the University of Georgia. Her areas of interest include anxiety, depression, addiction/substance abuse, adult children of dysfunctional families, and adjustment disorders. Her primary approach to counseling is solution-focused using cognitive-behavioral and reality therapy. Denise also offers faith-based counseling to those who feel they would benefit from their religion being a resource in their therapy. |
| Joy Wunderlich, M.A., LPC, N.C.C. Licensed Professional Counselor Joy joined Student Counseling in September, 2010. Joy obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia with a major in marketing. After graduating, Joy’s career included several years in the travel agency business which enabled her to explore other cultural perspectives and life experiences. Joy obtained her Masters in Mental Health Counseling from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida in 1999 and has been a Licensed Professional Counselor in Georgia since 2006. Joy has experience with counseling in crisis centers, out patient centers, and in-home family counseling with knowledge of a full range of mental health issues. In particular, Joy has expertise in treating anxiety disorders and mood disorders using systemic and cognitive behavioral approaches. Joy also has previous experience in substance abuse counseling and has a particular passion for assisting adult children of alcoholics in building healthy relationships. |
![]() Monte Kuykendall M.Div., M. A., LPC Licensed Professional Counselor Monte joined Student Counseling in January 2011. Monte earned his Bachelor of Arts in Religion at Charleston Southern University in Charleston, SC. Monte holds both a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Counseling, and a Master of Divinity from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Monte has years of experience working with individuals and families. He holds to the belief that the relationship between the therapist and client is the most valuable aspect of counseling. Monte also has an interest in integrating the client’s faith into his or her counseling. His areas of interest include relationship issues, marital issues, premarital counseling, family issues, anxiety, depression, addictive behaviors, trauma-related issues, and grief. Monte enjoys working with couples and primarily uses a family systems approach to his therapy. While Monte primarily works from a family systems approach, he also uses cognitive-behavioral therapy for some treatment issues.
