New "Music of Appalachia Course" developed by Dr. Mark Perry, North Georgia Department of Performing Arts. Dr. Perry serves on the Faculty Advisory Committee for Appalachian Studies

Community Partners 

Georgia Pick and Bow Traditional Music School

The Center founded this roots music initiative for children in 2006. Today, the program has its own non-profit status. Pick and Bow teaches young people to play and appreciate Appalachian music through group instruction, public performances, and individual mentoring. Hear folk artist Billy Roper talk about the importance of music education for children.

Dahlonega Mountain Dance

The Center is a founding sponsor of the Dahlonega Mountain Dance which was created to promote and share community dancing such as square dances, circle dances, contra dances.  Proceeds from the dance benefit the Georgia Pick and Bow Traditional Music School, 

Appalachian Jam. The Center is one of the sponsors of the Appalachian Jam which takes place every Saturday from May through October in downtown Dahlonega. The jam gives traditional mountain music players the chance to get together and celebrate the kind of music that has been performed in the Appalachian sountains for generations. Musicians are invited to bring their instruments and gather on the historic Public Square to jam with the scheduled musicians. Appalachian Jam produced by Dahlonega's Downtown Development Authority and Better Hometown Program
